5 Reasons to do Trek America

5 Reasons to do Trek America

If you’re thinking about exploring America after Summer Camp ends, you might be looking for a few reasons to do Trek America.

After Summer Camp’s over, you’ll have 30 days to travel the States before your visa runs out.

Instead of jumping on a plane to come straight home, exploring America offers so many opportunities to explore!

In today’s Blog, USA Summer Camp’s Jess Toogood talks us through her reasons to do Trek America.

Stay in Amazing Places

On our Trek America, we camped on the bank of the Colorado River, in the Grand Canyon, and at a campsite with natural hot springs.

I’m not an experienced camper, but they were some of the best nights of sleep I’ve ever had! The views were also amazing.

We had some unexpected visitors – a few raccoons and a scorpion… eek! But I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

Go off the Beaten Track

Everywhere we stopped, we were given advice on the best places to go, depending on what we wanted to do.

Whether that was hiking, shopping, or eating, our Trek America Leader always knew where we should go. It wasn’t a tourist trip, so it was off the beaten track.

They somehow store all this knowledge and keep it ready to answer any question you might be able to throw at them.

The Organising is Done by Someone Else

One of the most stressful things about travelling solo is trying to find cheap, but nice places to stay.

When you go on a Trek America, you don’t have to worry about accommodation because they’ll sort it all out for you.

The Trip Leader will have everything organized before you set out. They’re also tried and tested places, so no dodgy nights sleep!

Groups are Small so Trips are Tailored

Even if you’re travelling alone, it won’t feel like it because you’ll be with a small group of other people.

The trips are tailored to the people on the trip, so you’ll always get out of it what you want to.

When we got to the Grand Canyon, we were asked if we wanted to do a helicopter ride. A few of the group did, and some didn’t.

While some people took the helicopter trip, the rest of the group explored the campsite. I guess it’s just a really easy holiday!

Scratch the Travel Itch

One of the big reasons to do Trek America is to get the travel itch scratched.

You might spend just one night in a place before moving on, but it’s a great way to see lots of different things.

At the end of the trip, you’ll have a list of places you’ll want to go back and explore a bit more.

4 Summer Camp Phrases Explained

Know your Camp Christmas from your 10 for 2? Here are 4 Summer Camp phrases explained…

Life at camp is a bit like a bubble, so much so it even has it’s own language!

Don’t worry though, because, after a few days, you’ll be as fluent as everyone else.

Camp Christmas

Just because it’s the middle of summer and you’re in shorts and a t-shirt doesn’t mean it can’t be Christmas.

Every year, camp staff and campers come together and celebrate as if it was December 25th.

There’s a visit from Santa, wrapped presents, and a feast at dinner time!

10 for 2

If you spend 10 months counting down to the two you’ll spend at camp, then you’re living 10 for 2!

A summer at camp will be the best summer of your life. If you return to camp, you’ll experience it over and over!

Hot Days

One of the great things about working at camp is getting paid to have fun in the sun.

When it gets too hot to do anything, you’ll get a Hot Day. The day’s all about time in the pool and pizza!

Counselors get downtime to re-charge their batteries during the day, and that time is sometimes called Paperwork.
