You’ll have the most fun you’ll ever have in America, but days off at Summer Camp are pretty special. Life at Summer Camp in America can be a bit like a bubble. A typical day at camp is pretty hectic! When you do get a day off, it’s best to try and grab a break from camp life, even if it’s just for an hour or two. In this blog post, we talk through the best things to do on a day off at Summer Camp.
You’ve probably been to Tesco a million times, so the thought of a supermarket might not be all that exciting. Walmart is like an Aladin’s cave compared to anything we have in the UK. You’ll be able to spot a fellow Camp Counselors a mile off. Anyone who’s already been to Summer Camp in America knows that trips to Walmart on a day off can be pretty exciting!
If America’s notorious for one just one thing, it’s food. Every city has a massive range of flavours on offer. Fair warning though, the portion sizes in America are pretty massive. Just by looking at a plate you might put on a few pounds. Days off at Summer Camp are made for kicking back and enjoying the famous American hospitality – make sure you tip your host though!
If you’re smart, you’ll leave a bit of room in your suitcase for the trip home. Because the Pound is usually stronger than the US Dollar, you’re better off shopping Stateside than you are in the UK. Take advantage if you can, because Levis, Vans, Converse, and Abercrombie are cheaper to buy in the US!
Working at Summer Camp will mean you’ll be immersed in American culture, but days off are great for going deeper. One of the most popular all-American activities is heading to a baseball game. It’s great fun, and the tickets are really cheap! Other great activities include taking in a rodeo, state fair, or a demolition derby.
Remember the Summer Camp bubble we talked about earlier? Life at camp is full on, so one of the best things to do on a day off is absolutely nothing. After a hectic schedule of activities, you’ll need to re-charge your batteries somewhere quiet, away from it all. Catching up on sleep and getting chances to unwind at camp are few and far between, so take advantage when you can!
