Each year, hundreds of our applicants walk out of our Summer Camp Job Fairs, ecstatic as a result of being offered the job of a lifetime by one of our amazing camps. This year, we have over 60 American camp directors flying over to the UK who’re on the lookout for the perfect candidate to work at their camp next summer. This could be YOU! To get you prepped for our upcoming fairs, we’ve asked six of our applicants to give you all some tips and tricks on how to be confident, prepared and ready to grab hold of your perfect summer job.
“I can’t recommend job fairs enough. It’s a great way to get insight into the wide range of camps available, and also talk directly with the camp you think is the perfect fit. The best way to make sure you secure that place at Camp is to just be yourself. They want to find out if you’re the right fit for their staff or if the kids will like you. Make sure your personality comes across to convince them that you’re the one they should hire!”
“Job Fairs are a fantastic opportunity to see the diverse range of camps that are there. It also gives you the chance to meet lots of people who are in the same boat as you! Research the camps that will be at your fair. As a result, this will help you decide what type of camp is best suited to you as well as giving you lots to talk about at the fair. Be your enthusiastic and friendly self! They are looking for people who want to do a great job, but also help to create a friendly and supportive atmosphere at camp.”
“While researching, It also gives you the chance to write down questions for the camp. Some camps also have staff reflections which is something great you can look into! Similarly, this is an opportunity to see exactly what all the camps are about and finding out staff details such as time off/dietary requirements.”
“Worried about the Job Fair? Unsure where to go? Look out for USA Summer Camp Staff as they will be dotted around the Venue! They will be white t-shirts ready to help you get hired!”
” Remember, Camps will see you before they interview you and first impressions count for everything! Engage with people in line with you. This is your time to come across as a sociable and likeable person because these traits are just as important as your ability to coach and teach activities.”
“Bring printed copies of your completed application. As someone who helps hire for my camp at the Summer Camp Job Fairs, it’s much better to look through a complete application. Camps don’t like to see your application scrawled on a piece of paper at the last second.”
Now that you’re Job Fair ready, make sure you have signed up to one of the fairs on your USA Summer Camp profile. Good luck and see you there future Camp Counselors!
