Everyone who heads to America has a different reason why they chose to work at Summer Camp.
The decision to head Stateside for a summer is a big one, but well, well worth it. It’s a life-changing summer!
Today’s Guest Blogger, Ashleigh, spent two summers working at a camp in America.
In her blog, she walks us through why she chose to work at Summer Camp…
Growing up, I’d had several different part-time jobs working with children.
I knew that I loved working with children and wanted to work with them in my future career.
When I left Sixth Form, I took a gap year before going to university to study PE. I just didn’t feel like I was ready to start university.
When I chose to work at Summer Camp in my gap year, I never thought I’d go back again and again. I loved it!
My second summer working at camp was one of the best summers of my life. I loved going back and working with the same campers.
The day I arrived, I remembered how rewarding the job can be and how close you become to the people around you.
I had quite a bit more responsibility as a Returner, but in my first year, I worked as a lifeguard on the lake.
It was nice that the camp trusted me to teach the new staff how everything worked, and the staff felt comfortable asking me questions.
I returned to camp with 11 other people who were there before. A few of them were my best friends who I’ll probably be friends for life with!
We’ve lived together for almost 6 months, so I can talk to them about pretty much anything with them.
Life at camp is like being in a bubble where you can be a big child and play lots of games. You have no worries for a whole summer.
Both years, I worked in New York and it lead to me travelling around 17 different states. I got to see so much of America!
I would recommend working at Summer Camp in America to literally everyone.
