Visit New York on a Budget

Visit New York on a Budget

New York City is on pretty much everyone’s bucket list, but it’s not the cheapest place in the world to explore.

Don’t worry if you’re on a budget though, we’ve got a few tips and tricks that’ll help you see everything the city has to offer.

There’s so much to do in New York on a budget, so make sure you don’t miss out!

Walking Tours

One of my favourite ways to explore the city is a walking tour. They’re great at helping you find out more about the history of the city while exploring off the beaten track.

Remember to tip your tour guide if they’re helpful!

Get Lost

Manhattan Island isn’t actually that big, but it does look it. Spend the day walking around without a map and you’ll stumble across little gems you wouldn’t otherwise see.

A great place to explore is Greenwich Village. It has a real bohemian feel and it’s full of vintage shops, bars, and very pretty apartments. Don’t blame us if you want to move there!

Discover Apps

If exploring without a map isn’t your thing, then get the Subway App and the Google Maps app because they’ll both help you figure out the best way to get from A to B without having to spend a fortune in a yellow cab.

It’ll give you the best directions and best transport options to get there… win, win!

Free City Guides

Grab a free copy of the local newspaper – they’re dotted all over the city, so finding one won’t be too hard.

It’ll give you an insight into what’s going on in the city and there’ll be plenty of reviews of good places to explore.

Go Free

New York City is full of parks for you to hang out in. Attention to all Friends fans! A great place to visit is Bryant Park – home of the ‘Friends’ fountain in the opening credits.

The Hudson River Park Project is home to interesting art pieces, sports, and spots for you to sit by the river. Lot’s of New Yorkers are still raving about its quirky unique vibe and it’s perfect on a sunny day.

Famous New York Food

New York knows great food and they know how to do great food on a budget. New York pizza and bagel shops are world-famous.

There are so many awesome delis, coffee shops, pizza shops, bakeries, and breakfast spots for you to grab a bite. Use the OpenTable app to look for the best ones to go to!

See the Statue of Liberty up close for free

A lot of tourists don’t know that you can grab a ferry for free to the Statue of Liberty.

The Staten Island Ferry will sail right past Lady Liberty… perfect if you want to grab an iconic photo.

The ferries run every 30 mins from 7am until 11pm. You can thank us later!
