After weeks of hard work, you finally have bagged your dream summer job, but now what? The weeks of anticipation are over, and the best summer of your life is so, so close! Before you jet off to camp, there are a few things you’ll need to get sorted.
You need to make sure you’ve uploaded your Passport, Police Check, and Health History Form to your profile. Certain sections won’t open up until you’ve uploaded your Passport, so make sure to get this done first. If you’re in the UK, your Police Check will need to be an updated version from ACRO. It also needs to be dated past the 1st of January! If you’re living in Ireland, you will need to get a Police Certificate from your local Garda Station. Last, but not least, a Health History Form will be on your profile ready for you to print off. Make sure to get this signed by a registered GP.
To work at a Summer Camp in America, you need a J1 visa, but don’t worry, we’ll help you with that! After you have confirmed your passport details, we will start to order your visa paperwork. Once this is ready, the visa section on your profile will show you six step by step guides. Make sure to follow these when applying for your visa. For more information on what to expect with your visa application, check out our blog on How to Ace Your Visa Appointment!
It is a requirement of your visa to attend a Pre-Departure Orientation Meetings. At the orientation, we will go over more about camp and give you some activities to take with you. You’ll hear stories from real camp counselors, find out more about the process of getting to camp and what to do in an emergency. Log onto your USA Summer Camp profile to get yourself booked in for a meeting. Failure to attend risks your visa and placement being cancelled.
After you’ve been hired by a Summer Camp, they might need more information from you regarding your placement. Make sure to check your emails and keep in touch with them. If you don’t respond, there is a possibility you could lose your placement. Your contract will be sent through after you have been hired. Read through this and get it signed as soon as you can.
Make all your friends and family super jealous of the amazing summer coming your way by sharing a post on social media! Camp directors love to see their staff celebrating and getting excited about the summer so make sure to tag them and us at @usasummercamp to create a great first impression!
