Morning wake-up: Energy from the start
The day kicks off bright and early as you and your co-counsellors wake up the campers in your cabin. Expect a lively start – blasting some tunes, encouraging dance-offs, and setting a positive tone for the day ahead.
Breakfast isn’t your typical mealtime either. Imagine hundreds of campers and staff singing, clapping, and even banging on tables in celebration if it’s someone’s birthday. The dining hall is a buzzing hub of fun and energy – you can’t help but get swept up in the excitement.
Daily activities: Adventure and variety
After breakfast (and a quick cabin clean-up), the real adventure begins – activities!
Depending on your camp, you’ll either lead sessions as a specialist counsellor (teaching something you love like football, swimming, drama, or arts) or support a group of campers as a general counsellor, joining them in activities throughout the day.
At specialist camps like French Woods Festival of Performing Arts, kids pick a mix of “Majors” (daily focus areas such as being in a musical or on a sports team) and “Minors” (flexible activities like rock climbing, circus skills, or swimming).
As a counsellor, you might:
- Teach skills in your specialist area.
- Encourage campers to try something new.
- Get involved yourself – from kayaking to climbing to even daring the flying trapeze!
You’ll also get a period off each day – time to relax, recharge, or jump into an activity just for you.
Meals and camp spirit
Meals aren’t just about food – they’re about community. Singing, chanting, and games at the table make every mealtime feel like a celebration. Forget polite small talk – at camp, meals are LOUD, fun, and full of laughter.
Evening activities: Camp magic

Evenings are where the magic really happens. After dinner, campers and counsellors gather for big camp-wide activities, which could include:
- Campfires and sing-alongs
- Color Wars (huge team challenges)
- Capture the Flag
- Talent shows and performances
- Themed discos or ice cream socials
Every night brings something new, and this variety is what makes camp so special.
Nights at camp: Reflection and rest
Once evening activities wrap up, it’s time to get the campers ready for bed. Counsellors take turns on rota duty, helping the kids wind down and settle into their cabins.
If it’s your night off, you might relax with fellow counsellors, enjoy the peace by the lake, or simply take in the incredible starry skies.
Why every day at camp is different
No two days at camp are ever the same. Some mornings might start with yoga on the lakefront, others with campers excited for a big theatre show. Even though days are packed and high-energy, you’ll always find moments of connection and calm that stay with you long after summer ends.
