After an unforgettable summer at camp, your 30-day travel window is the perfect time to live out your movie dreams – literally. America is packed with iconic filming locations, and exploring them is like walking straight onto a Hollywood set.

Whether you’re into comedy, drama, action, or romance, you’ll find yourself stepping into scenes from your favourite films and shows. From legendary landmarks to hidden gems, here are some of the must-see spots every movie fan should add to their bucket list.

Quick links

Forrest Gump – Savannah, Georgia

“Life is like a box of chocolates…”

If you’ve ever wanted to sit where Forrest Gump shared his life story, Savannah is the place to go. While the famous bench scene was filmed on the north side of Chippewa Square, the original bench now lives safely in the Savannah History Museum on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The square itself still offers that magical southern charm – with moss-draped trees and red-brick paths that feel like a movie set in real life.

Ted – Boston, Massachusetts

If you’re heading to Boston post-camp, keep an eye out for places you might recognise from Ted.

You can stroll past the childhood home of John Bennett on Albemarle Road, or head to 65 Chandler Street—the apartment shared by grown-up John and Lori. Want to re-live the infamous double date scene? Book a table (or just grab a drink!) at the Gaslight Brasserie on Harrison Avenue where it all went hilariously wrong.

Sex and the City – New York City

Calling all Carrie Bradshaw fans!

While the show is full of glitzy Manhattan hotspots, the must-visit location is 66 Perry Street in Greenwich Village – the real-life exterior of Carrie’s brownstone apartment. The leafy, elegant neighbourhood feels just like an episode waiting to happen. Head there in your best outfit for a photo op worthy of the ’Gram.

School of Rock – New Jersey & Staten Island

“Stick it to the man!”

The high-energy finale of School of Rock was filmed at two amazing venues. The Union County Arts Center in New Jersey hosted the “Battle of the Bands” lead-up, while the actual gig took place inside the historic St. George Theatre on Staten Island. Built in 1929 as a cinema palace, it’s a stunning space that still hosts concerts and shows today – so you might even catch a performance while you’re there!

Rocky – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

No film location list would be complete without this one.

Yes, you can run up the Rocky Steps—all 68 of them—outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, just like Sylvester Stallone in the iconic training montage. At the top, pause to take in sweeping views of the city (and maybe strike your own victory pose). There’s even a statue of Rocky nearby if you want the full movie fan experience!

More movie magic across the USA

  • Ghostbusters HQ – The Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in Tribeca, NYC is still operational and completely iconic.
  • The Grand Canyon – Seen in everything from Thelma & Louise to Into the Wild, it’s a must-see for big screen fans.
  • Twilight – Head to Forks, Washington, if you want to see the moody backdrop of the cult vampire series.
  • Breaking Bad – Visit Albuquerque, New Mexico for tours that take you through Walter White’s world.
  • Back to the Future – Catch a glimpse of Marty McFly’s neighbourhood in Whittier, California.

Why visit film locations after camp?

You’ve already had the summer of a lifetime – so why not keep the story going? Seeing these places in real life makes your post-camp travels even more memorable. You’re not just sightseeing… you’re stepping into your favourite scenes.

From snapping selfies at Carrie’s stoop to pretending you’re Rocky on the museum steps, these are the travel memories you’ll never forget – and they’ll make your Instagram feed look like a blockbuster.
