J-1 Visa Information
To work at a summer camp in the USA, you’ll need a J-1 Visa – but don’t worry, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Your J-1 Visa Made Simple
We’ll provide all the important paperwork you need – including your DS-2019 form (Certificate of Eligibility) and SEVIS Receipt – essential documents for your visa application. We partner with a trusted visa sponsor, IENA, approved by the US State Department, to make sure everything is handled properly.
Our step-by-step instructions and guides will walk you through the process – from booking your embassy appointment to completing the paperwork. With our support, applying for your visa is straightforward, and we’re always on hand to help.
At USA Summer Camp, we collaborate with over 700 camps across the US and maintain a 100% placement rate, so you are guaranteed a job at camp once you sign up!
With your job, food, accommodation, and pocket money included in this working holiday there is literally nothing to worry about and so much to enjoy! The eligibility requirements for the camp programme are also amazing! You just need to be 18 or older by the time camp begins, and you do not need to be in full-time education to be a counsellor! However, if you see yourself more as a member of the support staff, then you will need to be in full time education.
Embassy Appointments
You’ll need to attend a short face-to-face interview at a US Embassy to complete your visa application. In the UK, this will be in either London or Belfast, and in Ireland, it’s at the U.S Embassy in Dublin. If you’re applying from another country, you’ll visit your local U.S Consulate or Embassy.
Visa interviews might sound daunting, but they’re simple when you’re prepared. We’ll make sure you have everything you need to feel confident. The appointment itself usually takes about an hour or two, and after that, the Embassy will keep your passport for up to 10 days while they process and stamp your visa.
We’ll keep you updated on when embassy appointments open and when you should book yours.
Cultural Exchange Experience

The J-1 visa is all about cultural exchange. It’s designed to allow students like you to work in the USA, share your culture with others, and experience American life first-hand – whether that’s bonding with your campers, exploring new places, or discovering the real USA.
Already Have a US Passport?
If you’re a U.S passport holder, you won’t need a J-1 visa – but you will need a camp placement! We can help you land a fantastic, high-paying job at camp without the added paperwork.
We’re here to make the process easy, so you can focus on planning an unforgettable summer!
