What is a Girl Scout Summer Camp?
These camps are all about helping girls discover new talents, build confidence, and make lifelong friends. Operated by Girl Scouts of the USA, these programmes focus on outdoor adventure, personal development, and community building — all in a supportive, girl-led environment.
Inspiring courage, confidence, and character.
Girl Scout Summer Camps offer the traditional summer camp experience, but with a focus on helping girls grow as individuals and leaders. Camps range from rustic tents to cozy cabins, and activities are designed to foster independence, teamwork, and resilience.
These camps typically run Monday to Friday, meaning weekends are yours to explore and recharge.
Whether you’re helping girls conquer a climbing wall, roast their first marshmallow, or lead a campfire singalong, your days will be packed with memorable moments.
Why Work at a Girl Scout Summer Camp?
- Be a part of a mission that empowers girls across the US
- Gain valuable leadership and teaching experience
- Make lifelong friends from around the world
- Experience a traditional American summer with a unique twist
USA Summer Camp alum Jess Toogood worked at a Girl Scout Camp and described it as “the most empowering summer of my life”.

A Typical Day at a Girl Scout Summer Camp

No two days are the same – but here’s a rough idea:
- Wake-up and breakfast
- Morning activities (canoeing, crafts, climbing, swimming, hiking, arts and crafts. etc.)
- Lunch and rest hour
- Afternoon adventures and group sessions, leadership development programmes for older campers. A strong focus on communication, confidence and personal growth
- Camp-wide games, singalongs or skits
- Evening campfire and lights out
It’s action-packed, rewarding and full of laughter, a family feel where everyone supports each other
Is This the Right Camp for You?
You don’t need to have been a Girl Scout yourself to work at one of these camps. Camp Directors are looking for passionate, energetic people who want to make a difference. You’ll get full training, but a can-do attitude and the ability to motivate and inspire young girls is essential.
This is a great role for people who love nature, thrive in a team environment, and want to build their own leadership skills while helping others do the same. Skills you’ll need (and gain!):
- Communication – Listen, guide and connect with campers and staff
- Organisation – Help keep the day running smoothly for your group
- Patience – Every camper is different; you’ll support them with care
- Flexibility – Be ready for weather changes or unexpected moments
- Teamwork – Camp is a collaborative environment where support is key
