Swim Teaching Qualifications

Swim Teacher Qualifications include ASA Swim Teacher Level 1/2, STA Swim Teaching Qualification and a NPLQ or RLSS Certification.

If you’ve worked at a leisure centre before the likelihood is you may already have these. Quite often camps in America will help you get an American Red Cross qualification upon arrival at camp. In this case, you’ll have another great addition to put on your CV!

Teaching Swimming in America, you’ll be classed as a Specialist Counselor, so will earn extra money as well!

No you don’t.  You would simply need your Swim Instructor Qualification.  Quite often camps in America will train you and you’ll gain an American Red Cross as well.

How do I become a Swim Instructor this summer?

A camp will interview you for this position, make sure you’re suited to camp and that it’s a camp you wish to work at and they’ll offer you a job.  The first step is to Apply Now.

What does the job involve?

You’ll spend 2-3 periods of the day teaching swimming to the children at camp. The children will be different ages and abilities, as you’d expect.  Camp being camp, its not only designed to teach and coach swimming, there are also camp games going on so there may be swim races and tournaments that you gear your children up to, and hopefully win.

It’s an amazing opportunity to harness your skills, work abroad and have loads of fun.

Will I get chance to take part in other activities?

Yes. Even though you’re job role is a lifeguard, you’ll have an active part in camp.  There are many breaks in the day, join in with evening activities and skits and be a valuable team member in colour wars!
